Night School: Legacy

In the last year, Allie's survived three arrests, two breakups and one family breakdown. The only bright point has been her new life at Cimmeria Academy. It's the one place she's felt she belongs. And the fact that it's brought the dreamy Carter West into her life hasn't hurt. . .

But far from being a safe haven, the cloistered walls of Cimmeria are proving more dangerous than Allie could've imagined. The students, and faculty, are under threat and Allie's family - from her mysterious grandma to her runaway brother - are at the centre of the storm.

Allie is going to have to choose between protecting her family and trusting her friends. But secrets have a way of ripping even the strongest relationships apart . . .

Its hard to review the book without spoiling anything, but I won't.

Its been awhile since when I read the first book which I loved, so I thought maybe I might not remember the characters and find it hard to adjust but I didn't have a problem, I dived straight in. I don't know why I started reading it so late in the day as I couldn't put it down, it was just one more chapter to just till 1am, I finally went to bed at 3:30am....I'm so tired and I have work tonight :(.

Anyway this book had romance, drama, friendships, mystery just like the last one. I was impressed, I thought with what was revealed in the last book this one might not be able to match up to that...but it was just as great.

I didn't think this one was as action packed as the last and it has more of a slow build up, the action seemed to be over really quickly, but from the way it ended I think the next book is going to be bursting with it.

Its really the mystery that makes this book for me, I needed to find out more. All the characters hold some amount of mystery to them, and I'm with Allie all the way wanting her to find out who to trust.

The only thing I didn't agree with was the direction Allies relationship goes, all that effort in the last book as well.

I can't wait for the next book which is out on the 15th of August so I'm going to pre-order it.

If you loved the first one, you'll love this one.

I give this one 4/5

Accidentally on Purpose by L.D. Davis - Book Review

77p On Amazon UK

Emmy thinks her boss Kyle Sterling of Sterling Corporations is a dick.
So, she sleeps with him.

Emmy tries to put the mistake behind her, but then finds herself snowed in with Kyle. As the snow builds, so does the heat in the house between the two. The problem is that Kyle has a steady girlfriend that he is unwilling to break up with. Emmy cuts Kyle off and starts dating Luke. Even as their relationship takes off, Emmy is finding Kyle hard to shake. He is blatant in his feelings and desires for Emmy, putting her in an awkward situation. She tries hard to resist Kyle, but deep down inside Emmy's motives are shady. When Emmy succumbs to her hidden feelings for Kyle without setting Luke free, devastating consequences ensue.

In addition to her two men, Emmy daydreams about doing violent things to her loud mouthed, opinionated mother.

With drama, romance, some humor, and plenty of alcohol, follow Emmy as she deals with the consequences of "accidentally on purpose" falling for two men at once.

I thought this might be another one of those books that I just end up hating, but for some reason I can't help but read...you know the ones two people fall in love instantly and all they do is fall out and have sex in a totally unhealthy relationship.

But I was totally wrong, this book has real issues and consequences for actions. The characters had a lot more to them than just an obsession over one person, and I found parts totally unexpected.
You do get the convenient everyone has money so that's never a real problem, and the girl it totally hot but doesn't realise (although I didn't find this as annoying as normal)
I liked the main character and how witty she was and her interactions with other characters, and I like the journey she goes on and how she grows as a character.
This isn't the happy romance, it deals with some serious issues and isn't a light hearted read. The plot was well thought out and the ending really came together.
It was extremely hard to put down I needed to know what was going to happen, the story always seemed to give more information to move things along without getting stale.

This was a story with some sex in it, not loads of sex with a half arsed story. I think this is the one the book I've been looking for.

4.5/5

Its taken me awhile to write a review as I started a book but I'm not really getting into...I'm not one to give up but I was getting into a slump so I've decided from now on just to move it along.

Promise You Wont Tell by John Locke - Free Kindle Month

Free on Amazon UK

“I think something might have happened to me Saturday night. Something bad.”

Private Investigator Dani Ripper’s client list is nuttier than the Looney Tunes conga line, but she diligently solves one crazy case after another, waiting for a game-changer.

Enter Riley Freeman, 17-year-old honor student.

Saturday afternoon Riley quietly placed a little strawberry sticker on her private area and pretended it was a tattoo. She didn’t tell anyone about it. That night she went to a slumber party that featured drinking and boys. Riley fell asleep, woke up the next day with no reason to think anything happened…

…Until Monday, at school, when a classmate called her Strawberry.

Coincidence or crime? Dani agrees to investigate. And the roller coaster ride begins.

My Thoughts

The style this book is written in will be a love it or hate it kind of thing. I think if your not into it by the first few chapters your not going to like this book.

The story I liked, it was a bit far fetched but I did like the way it all came together. While I found many parts amusing which I felt it needed for the serious story under the humour, I do feel a more serious ending might of been better (not sure it just didn't feel real). The story had a fast pace and moved along quickly, I was always left wanting more. it was very quirky and I enjoyed the writing style.

The characters I did really like, I loved Dani the way she talks and thinks about things, the way she interacts with people is very enjoyable. But Riley and the teenagers just felt very unreal, that acted so mature and there is no way they could of put this plan together.

I just found this a very quick enjoyable read, I can see why some people didn't enjoy it but I have a very sarcastic sense of humour and loved how this book was written.

I would say give this book a go, its clever in the way its done but unbelievable at the same time. I enjoyed this book very much and will but buying more of John Locke's books.

I give this book 4 out of 5

Free Book Month - Heir Untamed (Royals Book 1) - Danielle Bourdon

Desperate for work to avoid eviction from her Seattle apartment, photographer Chey Sinclair accepts a rare opportunity to travel abroad and photograph Latvala Royalty. Encountering the Royals for the first time, Chey experiences an instant attraction to Mattias, second in line to the throne. He's charming, confident—and taken.

During a horseback ride to clear her head, Chey finds herself in a scuffle with Sander Fisk, head of security. Rugged, determined and sharp tongued, Sander is infuriating as well as intriguing.

Faced with conflicting emotions and a mystery unfolding in the castle, Chey must decide between men: a Prince of Latvala, or an arrogant rogue.

She discovers the hard way that this particular fairy tale was more than she ever bargained for.

I have to say this is not what I expected, it was more than 1 hot girl with loads of guys desperate to get in to her pants.
It was a quick read and finished it in 1 sitting. The writing I did find confusing in some parts but either it got better or I didn't notice as much.
I did enjoy the twist, I knew it was going to happen but I still liked it.
I liked all the Royals but the main girl fell a bit flat for me there wasn't anything special about her. The story said she was witty but there wasn't much banter and I feel if the conversations between the characters were better the story would of improved.
I did like the book and found it entertaining, the pacing was good and I enjoyed the romance. If the main girl had a personality then it would of encouraged me to purchase the other 2 books following this one.
So I would say its worth your time and best of all Amazon UK have it for free

I did look into the other books but at £2.54 will give it a miss if it drops to around £1 then I would defiantly give it a read. I would give this book

First Last Kiss - Ali Harris

Think that about sums it up....

The First Last Kiss - Amazon UK

Good Reads

This Book follows Molly, she is in the middle of moving house and finding things along the way that remind her of the past, and this is how the story of Molly and Ryan is told.
Molly never wanted love and wanted to concentrate on her career, she wants to see the world and doesn't want to be tied down to anyone, things are going to plan but she keeps bumping into Ryan. Ryan is fun, bubbly and loved by everyone.

Anyway....I like how the book was broken up, kept going to the past/present and I followed it without a problem. Molly's voice seemed different I could really feel her mature from teen to adult which I thought was fantastic and must of been hard to do. The book is a slow burner and while I could put the book down I spent any spare minute I could reading it. It always left me wanting more.

As for the characters I loved them all, I really did and because you get to know them so well they are like friends. I could relate to them all and I have friends/family who they reminded me of, they just felt so real.

The ending was great although I found it difficult to find it uplifting as I was still devastated...DEVASTATED.

I loved this book, I would highly suggest you don't read this in public there will be real ugly tears. The only tiny problem I had was when her teenage self would pop up in her head telling her off, this happened a bit too much for my liking.

Its gets the full 5 stars and I was entertained, in love, and so emotionally attached.

The Chosen Ones

So in my last post I said I would have to think about what books I would read for Bout of Books, while I was walking the dog I had the most amazing idea (not really that amazing) there are 41 unread books on my kindle, so I'm going to use a random number generator to choose my 3 books. I know I'm totally amazing :p

So here we go:

24, 1, 6

1: This Man - Jodi Ellen Malpas
6: Dead Broken - Gerard Gray
24: The Boat Builders Bed - Kris Pearson

So looks like i have 2 Sexy books and one Psychological Thriller, This man looks likes its going to be one long read. Going to random one last number just in case i do finish these books (really not going to happen)

28: The Half Life Of Hannah - Nick Alexander

At the moment I'm reading The First Last Kiss by Ali Harris, I've only read the first chapter hopefully I will read it before Monday.

Even though these books are not ones I was planning on reading anytime soon, I'm excited...

BookTube

I listen to a lot of reviews on YouTube, and certainly a good chunk of the books I read come from recommendations off YouTube. I have thought about doing my own BookTube channel but I don't feel I have the time. So instead I did a blog (I'm still trying to figure which direction/how I want to write my reviews) as of right now I don't have many people reading my blog which is fine as I like doing this, so if I have 5 or 500 views it doesn't really matter. Maybe one day I may venture into reviews on YouTube.
So I thought I would list my favourite YouTubers (see I did have a point)

Jennifer Fahy - She doesn't make videos on a regular basis, but I love her reviews.

SableCaught - So frigging smart I can feel my brain cells tingling when I listen.

Booksandquills - Loads of reviews, quality reviews and I love her accent.

The Readables - Again does loads of reviews and I love her style, her videos look awesome.

If anyone can recommend anyone else to me that would be fantastic, honestly I'm addicted to YouTube almost as much as books, when I cant read I'm watching YouTube (I have my phone with me when I shower) yes its that bad.

And the book everyone is talking about at the moment is Wither

Very mixed bag of reviews, I was thinking should I read it but it doesn't matter as I will end up reading it just because everyone is talking about it.

Wither Amazon UK

Welcome, Caller, This is Chloe - Shelley Coriell

Amazon Link To The Book

Ok so this book isn't on the kindle. I got my copy off Ebay, for just over £2...and it was the hardcover. Over the past couple of weeks I've been buying a fair few books off Ebay, some I've found cheaper than the kindle copy. The main reason for having the kindle is I have nowhere to store books, but thanks to Ikea I've bought a huge Expedit shelving unit which looks cool and great storage. Plus books really do look cool as decorations.

Anyway lets start the review

This book is about a girl called Chloe, right from the off you know she a bubbly sweet girl always trying to make others laugh. She has a big interest in vintage shoes and works dressed as a burrito. Then all of a sudden after winter break she finds her two best friends aren't speaking to her and are spreading rumors around the school about her. To top it all off a new school counselor scraps her independent study project and encourages Chloe to join her school's struggling radio station with the school misfits.

I really enjoyed this book, it reminded me of a sitcom. I picked this book up and didn't put it down, it was just so easy to read and I found it light hearted and had some fun characters. It always had something to make you carry on reading.

The story had a great flow and kept moving, I found the pace really nice. Everything just suited the book really well and I loved the overall feel.

If you've read a heavy book or you enjoy sitcoms, or just want a nice light read then this could be the book for you.

The Other Daughter - Lisa Gardner

The Other Daughter - Amazon Kindle

The book begins with Russell Lee a murderer who is put to death, reporter Digger is following Russell's story and is desperate to find out if Russell has a family.

The night Russell is put to death a little girl is found in a hospital drugged with no memory, Dr. Harper Stokes is working that night. Dr. Stokes and his wife decide to adopt this girl as she reminds them of the child they lost.

25 years later Digger gets a tip to the whereabouts of Russell's child.

There are a few things I just found unbelievable (can't say too much without spoilers) but I did get past this and it didn't spoil the book for me....but on the other hand it did take me out of the story.

I found it slow to get into but once you get going its very well paced and gave you little clues along the way. I was able to put the book down but I really wanted to find out what was going on and how it would end, I changed my mind to the outcome so many times along the way.

The characters where ok, I can't say any stood out so much, and I didn't like or dislike any, which again may be a huge downfall but the general story I enjoyed.

I would suggest you borrow this book rather than buy but I've heard the author is very good and has better books out there, I might give them a try.

SHOWTIME (Marvelle Circus, #1) Book Review

Link to amazon kindle book

This book follows the story of Laila, who is unhappy with her life and is given an opportunity to change things.
This book has very dark moments along with amazing descriptions about the circus and the acts, also some humor which just makes this book a good all rounder.
The backstories and characters are amazing you really feel like you know these people and I can imagine them so well, how they look/act.
I didn't realize just how much I was invested in everyone until the last few chapters where I was crying like a baby.
Chloe Kayne did an amazing job at putting you right there with everyone, I really felt like I was watching the circus and walking alongside the characters and I could understand why they reacted the way they did. I guess the best way to put it is everyone just felt so real they acted the way you would expect them to.
I loved this book, the only problems I had was the start I got the gist of what was going on but found it a bit confusing, and the first few chapters seemed to go a bit slow (alto I understand this as you need all the back stories, and details as this is the 1st book) but wow this book really took me along for the ride.
I'm really sad towards the end when it said next one is due 2014.....I can't wait

With my body

Well to start I found this book hard to get in to, the chapters are short and I found this distracting, each chapter starts with a quote or lesson, I did read them at first but didn't bother by half way through, again found them distracting and pointless.
I started to get past this towards the middle of the book, but took a long time to adjust.
The main part of the story is a housewife who loves her husband they have 3 boys, but life is getting on top of her, and she isn't the person who she thought she would be and is loosing herself. She frustrated, restricted and feels like she is loosing control of her life. She keeps thinking about something/one in her past.
The first part of the book, I found her to just be moaning constantly and instantly didn't like the character if it was a bit more subtle then I would get it, you can feel lost when everything is about your children, but the way she was carrying on I just wanted to tell her if that's the only thing she has to worry about life is too good to her.
Now I started to get into the second part about her childhood it made the first part make sense, I started to get into the rhythm of the book, and I wanted to know where it was leading.
But then the middle (meant to be a sexy book) I found odd and disturbing, a school girl with an older guy, a lot older. Really unsettling, I don't know if you were meant to feel sorry for Tol but I feel he got what he deserved in fact he should of been locked up.
I liked the end of the book, I thought it was heading in a different direction, but I'm so glad it ended the way it did.
I wont be reading again, and I'm not going to recommend, I think there are better books out there and the abuse in the book really puts me off, just felt so wrong as I was reading, I'm not sure if that was the intension.

What Will doesn't know is that Lou is about to burst into his world in a riot of colour. And neither of them knows they're going to change the other for all time.

My Thoughts

Fantastic book, would recommend. I loved the characters and loved the way they interacted, felt so natural. This book deals with serious issues and might even change your point of view on the subject. I found some of it hard to read through crying so much, i read it in one night i couldnt put it down at all i was up till 4am reading this. Will be reading again very soon as i want to soak it all up. 5/5

Description

She is pretty and talented - sweet sixteen and never been kissed. He is seventeen; gorgeous and on the brink of a bright future. And now they have fallen in love. But...they are brother and sister. "Forbidden" will take you on an extraordinary emotional journey. Passionate and shocking, this is a book you will remember long after you have put it down.

My Thoughts

This book is really well written, and it was unexpected the way I would feel at the end of this book. I like the way you had 2 main characters and got to hear both of there views on the situation. Altho I found Lochan more realistic, he seemed more tormented and distanced from having a normal life, where as his sister who seemed more normal and also didn't resist so much to what was going on. Its a really good book a real page turner and I didn't expect to feel so much sympathy for the situation, and things could of been so much different if it wasn't for there mother, and I didn't expect the ending at all not even just before it happened it totally shocked me. 4.5/5

My Thoughts

Wow, I have just this second finished this book, tears still in my eyes. It was fantastic, so emoitional im worn out from reading it, sometimes i was having to catch my breath.
It was like watching a film I could imagine everything so clearly, and didnt want to put it down, I love both parts of the story.
I think the best way to describe this book is captivating. I could read this book over and over.
I loved the caracters, and they all had so much depth. I will be telling everyone about this book I thought it was amazing.

I dont know if its just me but from time to time, the writing would be Liv said or Liv did then change to She said or She did which sometimes i thought it was a different person, only for a spilt second while my brain caught up. 5/5

These are my own reviews pulled from another site, I know they are short and I intend to do longer reviews, depending on time. I don't know which is better lots of small reviews or longer more detailed reviews?
These are my thoughts on the books its doesn't matter if you loved a book I hated or vise versa, everyone's different and I love discussing books so feel free to leave a comment with your views.

Well lets get started I guess

I thought I would give a go to reviewing or at least giving some idea about the books I've read, and maybe you will find something you like also.
This is my first shot at anything like this, I tend to read free/cheap books from the kindle library, For this first post I thought I would post some short reviews I have put on another site just to start things rolling.
I'm currently half way through a book which I will give a review on when I'm finished all though I'm finding hard to get into this book.
I apologize for spelling/grammar mistakes I'm a reader not a writer. :p

The End of Everything
Megan E. Abbott

Book Description

A close-knit street, the clink of glass on glass, summer heat. Two girls on the brink of adolescence, throwing cartwheels on the grass. Two girls who tell each other everything. Until one shimmering afternoon, one of them disappears. Lizzie is left with her dread and her loss, and with a fear that won't let her be. Had Evie tried to give her a hint of what was coming, a clue that she failed to follow? Caught between her imaginary guilt, her sense of betrayal, her own powerful need, and the needs of the adults around her, Lizzie's voice is as unforgettable as her story is arresting. This is no ordinary tale of innocence lost . . .

My Thoughts

This was an OK read, I was interested and I did want to know what was going to happen, But I thought it would of left more of an impression on me (having a daughter myself).
Not sure why but I didn't really feel the story, don't get me wrong I felt sorry for the girl after she told her story of what happened, but I didn't care for the girls they just didn't feel real.
It was a good idea but it was maybe too long winded I'm not sure why but at the end of the book it was just OK, nothing amazing, but not bad either. Im not sure what was going on at the end. 2.5/5

A mesmerising novel reminiscent of Daphne du Maurier's Rebecca - a passionate love story and a haunting page-turner that will keep you gripped to the very last chapter.

My Thoughts

Finished this book last night, read it in 2 days. Real page turner couldn't put it down. Its a really good mystery/who done it type book. Normally I have these figured out rather quickly, took me awhile with this one. I really enjoyed this book. The only problem I would say is the beginning, I think the situation happened to quickly while I understand why this was, but it wasn't very believable. I know she was running but I don't think she would of done so quickly and for him to want a stranger with no qualifications in childcare to look after his child unsupervised. I got over this quickly, the book was very well paced, very interesting. Is she going mad? Can she trust him? Can the police be trusted? All the questions I had while reading, and the reason I couldn't put it down.
4/5
